Have Your Say group

Picture
The ‘Have Your Say’ group is a group of family carers of both children and adults with learning disabilities and/or autism who exhibit behaviours described as challenging. The group is hosted at Carers Gloucestershire and is a key element of Gloucestershire’s Challenging Behaviour Strategy and Transforming Care Plan. They are key contributors to the Community of Practice.
At a strategic level the group acts as a resource for local decision makers by:

•             Working in partnership with them
•             Helping to co-produce important policies
•             Identifying priorities for local services
•             Monitoring how successfully they are delivered

The group ensures that the specific issues around challenging behaviour are embedded in existing structures like the Parent Carer Network and the development of the Carers Alliance.

At an operational level, the group works with services to identify key problem areas and issues. The Have Your Say group makes positive suggestions about what needs to change.

At an individual level, the group works to reach out to other family carers, to provide them with information and support. It also provides an opportunity for families to connect to the Family Support Scheme.
